To make a foundation chain,
A foundation chain is the basis from which all other stitches start from. You chain the required number of chains for the pattern you are going to work, much as you would cast on the amount of stitches you require in knitting.
Each V-shaped loop on the front of the chain counts as a stitch, remember the loop on the hook does not count as a chain.
1. Starting with your slip knot on your hook, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through the slip knot loop, creating a new loop on the hook and completing your first chain stitch.
2. Repeat this step of yarn over and pulling through the loop on the hook until you have a chain of stitches totally the amount you need.
If you move your thumb and forefinger up the chain every few stitches as you chain it will help keep the tension even for you.
