Work this week has been progressing quite good on projects but first some finishes.
If you saw the post earlier this week for the Copper Pot Milo you’ll know it was finished and off the needles at the start of the week and blocked by mid week. For more on it do check out Thursdays post here.
Next up was the commissioned tea cosy I was doing Fresh Mint. This I made a pompom for the top as I didn’t like the finish on the original pattern that is on my own tea cosy. I haven’t made pompoms from I was young and it was so much fun showing the children how to do it with two simple cardboard circles and yarn and scissors.
This is all the finishes for this week. Links for these projects are in the list below and link to my project page with patterns there.
With these being all that was on my needles I needed to think about what to start next. It wasn’t where I have nothing on the list quite the opposite I have a lot it was more which would be the best and most efficient way to tackle the projects so things would be done for gifts for christmas and birthdays and still do those projects that I’m a little more excited about.
While mulling this over, my best mulling goes on when I’m sat knitting. I decided on the final Xmas gift presents I wanted for the children and checked through yarn stash. I realised I needed yarn for them and have ordered it this weekend. So while I wait for that yarn to come I started some birthday gifts. Mainly my Mom’s which is this September and Lady Evelyn’s which as we know is December.
For my Mom I cast on this Botanical Cowl which I’m calling Fern. The yarn was a ball of Manos Silk Blend that I had for a scarf but fell out of love with the scarf so what better than to use it for a cowl. This yarn reminded me of the Ferns I saw in the forest when last out in it for a walk. This is knit on a 4mm needle.
For Lady Evelyn I chose a Spring Bunny crochet toy. I’ve never made a toy before let alone done it in crochet. This is the head so far. I need to get the safety eyes but can do the other body parts while I wait for those. I’m using Rico Creative Aran Cotton for this and a 3.5mm hook. This we are calling Flora.
I did also finish the first sock of the Fruit Salad pair of socks for Elizabeth. These were such a quick knit even with stopping and pausing each evening to get the foot measurements right. It had a lovely cuff and just for a total contrast Elizabeth and I chose this lime green button to go onto it. We loved the contrast and had spent a lovely half hour searching through the button box for matching and contrasting ones.
These are pretty much the projects I will be working on this week with the addition of the Milo vest for Caoimhe. Even though she’s 9 now she still measures chest measurement for the 5/6-year-old on the vests measurements. It will need extra length but I am hoping will fit. The measurements make sense and I guess if it doesn’t I’ll have one for Elizabeth and Evelyn to grow into.
The yarn order coming is for a mixture of cardigans for the girls and sweaters for the younger boys. I’m not sure if it is over ambitious to try to get four at least garments done in time for Christmas for them. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have an ambitious plan I’m just unsure if I’ve gone to ambitious !
This week I’ve also had an idea for my own design for a cloth, well two actually and have the main design on paper. I just need to fiddle around with no’s and borders and then it should be ready for a sample knit.
I also have to do the no’s up on paper for the design I have in my head for a hat for the bigger boys for Christmas. I have the colours in mind and can visualise it but as usual it is getting that visual picture in my head into something tangible in front of me.
We have been gathering up the last few items needed for the children going back to school. With 5 going to be in our National school system, Benjamin is starting this year. I needed to sort through uniforms and gather up books and make sure all were covered and ready. This was done mid July and are sat awaiting their return to school which happens 30th August. James starts in Secondary school this year and we have just gotten his uniform and his books will be picked up on his second induction day which happen the 22nd and 23rd of August and he then starts school on the 26th August. Eekk !!!
That is pretty much all that is happening in family world at the moment so lets take a look at the list.
