YOP Year 2 Update

Late posting today, what with celebrating Easter, looking for eggs well you get the idea ! A very Happy Easter to you all.

This week I’ve been working on three projects.

First up is Hermione Hearts Ron this picture was taken this morning at the start of decreases, it has since been finished. I am debating if it needs blocking, do you block hats ?

Hermione Hearts Ron

Second is the Basic Beanie. This is a hat for my Mum who’s favourite colour is green. I like the flecks of red and green in this. It is Stylecraft Life DK yarn. The ribbing band is done and I’m now on the body of the hat.

Third was the Stormy Sky sock. I have the ribbing on this one done and will hopefully get the leg worked on this week.

I have a present to work up for a friend with this Rowan chunky wool, hopefully that won’t take to long and I do have my eye on two bags, one for the girls for their birthdays in June and one for myself but I think I will wait until I get some more projects off the needles.

I did also want to let you all know about a giveaway I’m having on my blog for my birthday. This HERE is the post for it, please do feel free to enter.

I’ve been talking for some time about how behind on updating my recipes I’ve been and  with a post happening most days during the week I’ve decided to make Saturdays my post for recipes so all going well next week will see the first Sweet Saturday post, pop back then to see some baking goodies.

In other news, next week on the 7th, I’m heading off to the city with my eldest James who’s competing as part of the winning team in a schools nationals table quiz final. Its held by the Credit Unions here in Ireland and they have gotten through local and county level and are now heading to national level. Please keep your fingers crossed for them and I’m hoping they do well as they have been swatting up on things but mainly I hope they enjoy the experience for what it is. Oh by the way I hate hate hate driving in the city and have to face it, please also keep that in your thoughts to !!

Woot woot, first to leave you a comment today. LOVE the first hat…those cables are gorgeous and so is the color. No, I've not blocked a hat, but due to the nature of the fiber I use and types of hats (quick for the charity), I don't think it would matter. Will hope over to see about your contest next.

  2. Good luck to James and his team…that's always exciting! The hats look great…I've had the Hermione one and yarn for it forever, but haven't started it yet…

  3. I don't think I've ever blocked a hat, but I suppose it depends on the pattern. If you think it'd show better in photos than I would. It's a lovely colour :)Good luck at the quiz finals – win or lose, it's always a good experience. And hopefully you get nothing but good traffic and generous drivers who give you plenty of space to merge and change lanes πŸ™‚

How exciting for James and his team! You must be nervous for them. I LOVE, LOVE the Hermione Hearts Ron project. Coveting that too! I think it looks really great before blocking.

  5. Linda says:

the hats look great..that's a lot of ribbing you've done!!! Keeping my fingers crossed!!

I only block hats if they're supposed to be slouchy, or if the stitches need some coaching (colorwork or cables, sometimes). I hear you about driving in strange places– I have to drive in California tomorrow, and I'm more nervous about that than I am about my interview. Good luck to you, and good luck to James!

  9. Kim says:

Simply lovely hats Ruth! You have a lot of fun stuff happening-and as one city driver hater to another, I will keep my fingers crossed for you and for you son. Soaking up the experience is the most important for this young kiddos. I don't know if I ever properly thanked you or not for posting the lovely flower pattern the other week, so just in case, here is a big Thank You! I am looking forward to seeing your recipes–one of my favorite parts of this whole blogging thing is getting a glimplse into the life of my international friends' lives–weather, food, crafting… the whole kit and kaboodle. :)*smiles*

I don't block hats either..the patterns seem to show no matter what! good luck to the team and the driving in the city…I don't mind it..but I take it very slow..it drives the other drivers crazy!
