YOP Year 2 Update

Afternoon Bloggers !

Its wet and cold here today in Ireland but in our house its got a very Christmassy feel to it, we’ve got the decorations up and we are officially counting down to that, as well as the baby ! We are going to run out of fingers and toes to count on if we are not careful lol !

Knitting has been good this week, with everything as prepared as I want it, its just a matter of waiting and so I’ve been knitting.

The hat I was working on for James last week is finished. He was inspired by the Jamaican running teams during this summers Olympics and so he’s got a beanie hat to remember that by. The pattern I used was this Basic Beanie one and I knit the regular fit one for him. I used King Cole’s Merino DK yarn for this hat.

Basic Beanie – Jamaican Style

I then moved onto Alan’s beanie and searched in the bag for what colours I had left and to see what I could do to make his different from the others. I again used King Cole Merino DK yarn and used the pattern Strib Hat

Last week I also mentioned wanting to get another hat done, one for my sister this time as a gift for Christmas. Well its not finished but should come off the needles later tonight if not tomorrow. For this one I used Stylecraft Life DK yarn. This is my first time to use this yarn and I like it. Its an acrylic and wool mix so should wash and wear well. I’m again using the Basic Beanie pattern but knitting to the sloucher pattern on this for her. The colour of this yarn is called Cranberry, very apt I’d say !

Basic Beanie

When this beanie comes off the needles I need to knit one now for my husband as he likes the looks of these ones I’ve been doing so I need to get some black for him, no point in doing colourwork for him when he wants it for outside jobs this winter !
I think while waiting for that to come I will have time to knit myself a hat from one of the patterns on my YOP list ! Its cold and chilly and I’ve no hat but I do have the yarn for lots, I just need time so I’m going to knit myself one up !!

This is my YOP list updated and you can see what my choice of hat patterns for myself could be !

Thank you all for your encouraging words last week, I hate being put in a position to spell things out so clearly but feel now I can move on, lots of better things to concentrate on, apart from the upcoming birth of this baby, this is a year which I will be glad to see the back of, its been trying but lessons have been learned.

Happy Knitting,

I agree, this year has been sucky but wow..you have a new baby to look forwards to! Wet and grey over here in Co Roscommon too: lovely knitting, might just be inspiring enough for me to pick up the needles!

It's rather rainy and icky here in the San Francisco Bay area, too. Like ridiculously rainy and windy and icky. I do like all those hats…but I don't have much of a need for them any more.

  3. I've been on a hat kick myself lately so I shall have to check out the patterns you've knit up. They look great!

  4. I love the Jamaica inspired hat. Great colors and the simple project lets them shine.

Great hats! Your boys will be warm and stylish all at the same time–you are just knocking items off your list right and left girl! Well done and what a lovely feeling you must have going into the holiday season with the arrival of the new wee one! I am so excited for you!!! The new year is bound to be happier. 🙂 Take care and stay warm–it is rainy and windy here tonight in the Seattle area…*smiles*

Awesome hats, all of them; but must say I'm partial to the Jamaican one. Such neat colors, bright and fun. Anxious to see the cranberry one finished, such a pretty color. Wow, you're already decorated. We're ahead this year, in that we actually got stuff out yesterday to see what we had, what we needed etc. I remembered we were in need of lights but couldn't remember how much of what we had or how much got tossed out last year. We did shop, but we didn't get anything up yet.

  10. Loving your hats and counting down with you too – enjoy the festive fun x

  11. I love all the hats, and wow you are fast at knitting them up!

  12. Kepanie says:

Ruth, you are such an outstanding mum to your kids. I love how you know each child so well when knitting up an accessory for him/her. That Jamaican one is awesome and I smiled thinking of the movie, Cool Runnings.Your productivity is astounding! You need to bottle that up and sell it. Yes, do make one for yourself.
